Man charged over redfern riot
Police are investigating after at least six people were arrested for allegedly lighting a massive fire in a redfern area.
Police arrived at the scene on Monday morning at about 8.50am after receiving reports of a large blaze that damaged five cars in the village of Cluny-dong.
One of the cars had apparently caught fire after the police had been called to the scene.
Four men, aged from 24 to 31, were charged with offences including possession of arson, affray, using a flame to damage property or damage.
Five people in their 20s - including two children - have been charged with similar offences.
Two men aged 27 to 40, who were charged with possession of arson, are also due to appear in court on Thursday.
A number of residents were seen running away from the scene as police cordoned off the area with a steel mesh fence.
Neighbours and fire crews, who work in tandem in the area, are reported to have been called to the scene to try to put out the fire.
It was not immediately clear whether there were other fatalities.
A witness described what had happened as a "massacre of a house".
Labor set to reveal bunbury candidate in next two weeks
Labour's deputy leader Tom Watson has confirmed the party will set up a leadership contest in April.
But he has not officially named anyone to lead.
Mr Watson told Sky News: "We're all in this together so I want everybody who can do this to do it at the next local election.
"I have no idea what I'm going to do, but I will not be saying if there's going to be somebody in May."
The deputy Labour leader is expected to announce his successor next week, after he has been interviewed by party headquarters, on Saturday.
It comes as his rival Andy Burnham said he was committed to winning a leadership vote, saying: "I think anyone can do a leadership election and that is the only thing you're guaranteed by the members".
Mr Corbyn is also said to have warned his party to stay away from speculation about him stepping down.
Mr Burnham said: "I think at the moment all the speculation is taking place and that's completely unfair. We have a leader who is the best we can be, we have a leader who has been in a very important role with us and now it is time to look for the next leader".
